Overview
Our  team pioneered the Frontalis Orbicularis Oculi Muscle (FOOM) flap shortening procedure, using autologous muscle tissue from underneath the eyelids (the FOOM flap) to correct poor muscle function resulting in eyelid ptosis, thus replacing conventional eyebrow raising surgery. In addition to providing a better contour, the new procedure moots the potential of rejection of foreign bodies, insufficient correction, or complications related to eyelid shape, thus significantly reducing the rate of secondary corrective surgery or recurrence. Our reputation of excellence in reconstructive microsurgery has attracted and continues to attract many foreign reconstructive surgeons to our center each year to observe and study our operative techniques and protocols. This unique academic exchange, combining with our prowess in both clinical medicine and basic science research, allow us to stay at the forefront of reconstructive microsurgery, and place ourselves in the leadership position in the world.
