Advance Dental Implant Center, TSGH

The Dental Implant therapeutic team of Tri-Service General Hospital consists of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontal and Prosthetic Divisions, with well clinical experienced experts as well as pioneer in the field of attending physicians and dental implant specialists.

Each of the service processes and procedures is set up based on ISO quality management principle, and strictly follows the norms of implant process to ensure service quality and patient safety. The features of this Center's equipments and services include: NewTom horizontal precision dental CT, precision implant locator, precision surgical introducer, 3D image analysis and design of implant position, and exclusive personal implant passport.

It should be emphasized that immediate implant placement and restoration in the mandibular posterior region and maxillary esthetic zone are still critical and challenging. This is mainly caused by the limited hard tissue volume, unfavorable biotype of soft tissue, inadequate implant position, poor primary stability, gap between the implant and socket etc., which may lead to difficulty in achieving implant primary stability, and even higher implant failure rate.

Stringent case selection, comprehensive assessment, and proper treatment planning prior to surgery are ways to reduce surgical accidents and complications, such as inferior alveolar nerve, lingual plate perforation, labial bone perforation in the mandibular posterior region and maxillary esthetic zone. These assessments allow the clinician and patient to consider treatment options, for example, guided bone regeneration, soft tissue grafting, or using a delayed implant protocol, if the site exhibits a high risk of labial plate perforation for immediate implant placement.

There is a paucity of information to assess the pre-operative risk of immediate implant placement on mandibular posterior and maxillary esthetic zone of an anticipated extraction site. Therefore, we published several articles, and formulate a new protocol to evaluate the risk of immediate implant placement prior to surgery, and translate into clinical application based on the published results.

Risk Assessment for Immediate Implant in the Posterior Mandible and Maxillary Esthetic Zone
1. Immediate dental implant placement has been considered as a “technique-sensitive” procedure.
2. We had established a protocol regarding the anatomic findings in posterior mandible area, maxillary esthetic zone and other important regions in the oral cavity, the anatomic structures at implant recipient sites should be carefully evaluated prior to implant placement. Moreover, a comprehensive and detailed treatment plan is required to help prevent surgical complications and implant failures.
